Removable Fashion Embroidery

Machine embroidery is so popular right now and it seems it will never really go out of fashion. Here we show you how to create a removable embroidered motif that you can easily attach to any garment to add an element of dimension. With this technique it's so easy to stay on-trend without having to recreate your wardrobe each season—simply replace the design when you feel like a fresh look.
You'll need
- Hemingworth thread (in the colours of your design)
- Crystal organza fabric
- Gas-operated soldering iron
- Echidna Washaway - water soluble stabilizer
- Echidna Hot Melt Web
- Embroidery design file of your motif
- Sewing/embroidery machine (we recommend the Brother NV180 if you're just starting out)

What to do
1. Hoop the backing layers
Sandwich one layer of organza between two layers of Echidna washaway and hoop all three firmly in the smallest hoop to suit the design. In this case the 100mm x 100mm hoop is perfect.
2. Stitch out the design
Stitch the design through to completion. Remove it from the hoop and trim back all three layers to about 3mm from the edge of the design.
3. Dissolve the washaway
Soak the design in warm to hot water to remove all remaining washaway and allow the design to dry.
4. Solder the edge
Using a soldering iron carefully melt away the remaining organza, right back to the edge of the stitching.
5. Apply to your clothing
You are left with a freestanding design that can easily be applied to a garment or article using Hot Melt Web or even hand stitching.
